A NEW CENTRE FOR ALL St Andrew's Centre is about to change! From being solely a Youth Centre it will now become a Community Centre for everyone in Immingham. That is, if a lottery bid made in July is successful. The planned changes will include a new heating system, disabled access & toilet, a new kitchen and a secure perimeter fencing. A recent survey showed that a large percentage of people were interested in adult education classes, holiday play schemes, social meetings and luncheon clubs. At present it is used by a number of local groups. With the improvements it is hoped that many more activities for and by the community will benefit. A Mother & Toddler group is due to start in September.

TEENAGE ENTREPRENEURS Two local teenagers have started up a new business which looks set to be a big success. Based at the County end of Pelham Road Patrick & Andrew Gilboy (16 & 18) have opened a new shop. The shop is a welcome addition to Immingham and concentrates on spares and accessories for MotoCross enthusiasts. In the few weeks they have been open they have experienced a good response. Already they have expanded their range to include a small amount of sales of bikes also. Among the most popular have proved Quads, small four wheeled vehicles. Patrick & andrew have always been interested in MotoCross bikes. Patrick regularly takes part in national competitions. He is now in the 125cc class and numbers among Britain's top ten riders.

THERE'S MORE TO IMMINGHAM! A new leaflet is set to promote Immingham. Yes! Immingham is well worth a visit. At least that's what a new leaflet published by North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) tells us. The leaflet titled, "Immingham - there's more than just a dock!", is free and well worth reading. You'll find it in the library, Immingham Resource Centre, NELC's offices on Kennedy Way and various other sites. What a pity N.E. Linc's Council didn't come and ask an Immingham school to help out - once again they've snubbed us! Speaking of the docks - Immingham and Grimsby docks are the only two docks in Britain to actually show an increase in traffic last year. Over the 2001-2002 season, Immingham handled 28,000 tonnes of chilled foodsand attracted a number of new customers.

LOCAL GROUP, LOCAL BOOKS A local group has published several books of local interest. Each of these books were researched and written by local people. They are all members of the local branch of the Workers Educational Association (WEA). In Immingham the local branch has been operating for many years. The topics of the courses it provides are chosen by the local members. Over the past few years the subjects have included Local History, the English Civil War, the Pilgrim Fathers, 18th Century Art etc, and various natural history subjects such as birds, wild flowers and butterflies. At the present time the Immingham Branch meet at the Resource Centre in Margaret Street. The next course of 10 weeks will commence on 11th September from 10am to noon. The subject is Trees and the tutor is Mark Tyskza. There are fees to be paid but those in receipt of benefits are exempt. New members are very welcome. The branch will also welcome suggestions for new courses. For further information contact:
01469 573889 / 519506
The books published by Immingham's WEA are available at Gaits of Kennedy Way and the Londis shop in Bluestone Lane.
