THE BEST OF LINCOLNSHIRE Local farmer Terry Tomlinson is justly proud of his pigs! His main outdoor breeding herd overlooks the beautiful Laughton Forest in the Trent Valley. His animals are fed in the traditional way, using whey mixed with home-grown cereal. Whey is a by-product from creameries. It used to be normal practice for creameries to keep a herd of pigs to which they fed the excess whey. This is typical of Terry's ideas on farming. He says, "I see farming as much more than profiteering." Terry and his wife, Kathleen, still feel the same concern for their animals as they did when they started their first small herd. Many feel that such concern and their traditional feeding methods make a big difference in the taste of the final products. A view that this writer and his family heartily agree with! Terry & Kathleen have now opened a Farm Shop on their Poplar Farm, near to Immingham (just above Killingholme). They call it, "A permanent farmers market." Within a short period they have also been able to add quality Lincolnshire Beef and Lamb to their range Terry insists on actually seeing the animals in the fields and personally checks the farming set-up in some detail. You will also find Kathleen's excellent home-baked cakes. Shortly they will also be introducing dairy products - again with an emphasis on a taste of Lincolnshire. Many do not realise that the typical ingredients of a family meal could well have travelled a total of 50,000 miles! The obvious question is, why buy food from so far afield? Local people can now enjoy excellent local food.

NEW HEALTH CENTRE PROPOSALS (cont.) Local people generally welcome the proposed Primary Care Centre. However, they are asking why they are not being kept informed or even consulted? A number of questions are being asked, including how people with mobility problems are going to access facilities further from their homes? Additionally, Immingham people may be able to make positive suggestions. For example, the Editors of this publication suggested that the car park should be planned so that the Breast Screening Bus be accommodated. This could overcome some of the difficulties that have been mooted as reasons for Immingham loosing this service. Eye On Immingham has been very impressed by the success of the integration of Mental Health Services with Council Services. This process has included service users and Carers at all levels, all the way up to Board level. This has brought about many positive changes recently. We hope that the Primary Care Trust will look at this example of good practice and learn from it! Why not have your say by logging in to:

SUPERMARKET DELAYED! (cont.) The decision has been referred for various reasons. These include the site not being a town centre one and that the land had previously been set aside for industry. Councillor Alan Burley, Chair of the Planning Committee, expressed "disappointment with the residents of Immingham" hoping "that the enquiry is held soon and the residents of Immingham get the shopping facility they desperately need." Councillor Kelly Bradley told this publication, "We are extremely disappointed …. but would hope the people of Immingham will make their voice heard in support …. of a Supermarket for Immingham." The truth is, nowhere in Immingham is more than 20 minutes walk away. Also, a supermarket development is likely to provide more jobs and less disturbance to neighbouring households than any industrial development. A previous Mayor of Immingham, Ray Thornhill, has pointed out that the Manby Road end of town was once a "centre" of Immingham.
