LOCAL MAN GIVES TOWN BACK LANDMARK BUILDING
The County Hotel is once more a building Immingham can be proud of and it is largely down to one man! Local man , Pete Rossiter, has given Immingham back one of its landmark buildings. Many now know him as Maintenance Pete! Before Pete started "helping out" at the County he had been unemployed for over three years. He says, "I agreed to help with a couple of small jobs and then all hell broke loose".. Since those first few "little jobs" Pete hasn't looked back. Pete has literally seen the County Hotel turn round from the wreck it was when its new tenants, Lyn & Mick, took over to something all of Immingham can be proud of. Previously Pete had worked as a shop-fitter for six years. But when his partner moved on into management he found himself redundant as he didn't drive. The County Hotel has stood as the eastern gateway to Immingham since 1913. That was just seven years after the Docks started to be built - the beginning of modern Immingham. It has seen many important guests including Earl Louis Mountbatten. He used the Hotel as his headquarters while his ship, the HMS Kelley, was being repaired.
